Ferryhill Railway Heritage Trust incorporating Ferryhill Men’s Shed

Vision, Mission, Values

Vision Statement

To be a “must visit” museum and visitor centre for our community, tourists and railway enthusiasts.

To be a recognised centre of excellence in historic railway locomotive, carriage and wagon repair and maintenance.

To operate recreational passenger services, using restored rolling stock, from Ferryhill to Aberdeen Railway Station and elsewhere.

Mission Statement

To raise awareness of and education in railway transport heritage for the benefit of the public by restoring the historic buildings on site and establishment of a museum where artefacts can be displayed.

To improve the health and well-being of people of all ages and backgrounds living in Ferryhill, Aberdeen and surrounding areas by offering facilities and opportunities to learn new skills, be creative, build confidence, and meet new people
To provide facilities for the operation of both steam and diesel locomotive hauled railway trains.

Ferryhill facilities shared by Deeside Railway Company.

Temporary Station
About us

Aberdeen Railway Company opens a temporary station and facilities in Ferryhill including a small engine shed which still exists as part of larger brick structure.

Permanent station
About us

A permanent station was opened in Guild Street.

Caledonian Railway Company
About us

After a series of takeovers and mergers, Caledonian Railway Company became owners of Ferryhill site.

12-road engine shed and 70ft turntable
About us

A 12-road engine shed and 70ft turntable built by Ransome and Rapier of Ipswich was built in southwest corner of current site

Caledonian Railway
About us

Caledonian Railway was absorbed into London, Midland and Scottish Railway.

UK rail transport system
About us

The UK rail transport system is nationalised as British Railways.

Last scheduled steam service
About us

The last scheduled steam service left Ferryhill, but the site continued as a diesel depot.

Facilities Closed

Ferryhill facilities were permanently closed.
